Abstract

A hospital is one of the few typologies of architecture that accept the human condition in a less than idealized state. They are places designed and built to heal it. The typology also accommodates a vast range of temporal liminality. It is temporary for patients, functional and precisely organized for doctors, nurses, medical students - for whom the hospital is a place of study and occupation, often for a career that spans decades.
